Tutoring, grades K - 12
Lessons are usually 1 to 2 hours long in person, or can be purchased in units of 15 minutes for tutoring over the internet.
TUTOR- SUSAN JENNIFER (JENNY) ROBSON: I have a B.Sc. in Physics, with Math subsidiary, and have been tutoring in the Cowichan Valley for the last 10 years. I am on the Cowichan School District's approved list of tutors (I am also listed sometimes as Susan, which is my first name). Please see the link above "About the tutor" for more information about me.
FEES
-
INTERNET TUTORING:
The student will pay for an hour at a time, but can use it up by the minute (with a minimum of 10 minutes each time) as they need help.
Cost: $25 an hour, paid in advance using PayPal.
The first 15 minutes of the first session is free while we get things sorted out.
I am just setting up internet tutoring, where we can use either NetMeeting or Windows Messenger (Not MSN Messenger). There is an interactive white board, which both the student and I can write on at the same time, and we can talk using a headset with a boom-mic. This is preferable to speakers and computer mic, because it
should prevent any echos from occurring. There is also a chat window. I have a Wacom bamboo writing tablet which enables me to write freehand on the whiteboard for fractions etc. It is expensive at about $100 (including taxes and postage) and the student does not need to buy one. They can always read out the question as I write it for them on the white board, or they can type it themselves on the whiteboard, or send it in advance by e-mail.
-
WINDOWS XP.
We can use Windows Messenger, which has chat, live talking, and an interactive whiteboard. Windows XP comes with Windows Messenger readily available. This is not MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger, which are compatible but different programs, but have fewer options. On my computer, the buddy icon on the top bar is Windows Messenger, and the one on the bottom bar, with the orange slash, is MSN messenger/Windows Live Messenger.
MicroSoft has made NetMeeting only accessible by going into the "Program Files" folder in "My Computer", so it is not as convenient and it is an older program.
- OTHER WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEMS
We can use NetMeeting instead of Windows Messenger (which is not available with any operating system other than XP).
It is a very similar, but older, program, with chat, live talking, and an interactive whiteboard. On the older versions of Windows, Netmeeting can be accessed by starting a call in MSN Messenger (Not Windows Messenger this time), and then clicking "I want to start a NetMeeting"
