According to a newspaper article in the Times Colonist 11th June 2010
Quote: "An ambitious development worth as much as $1 billion in Youbou has been given the green light by the Cowichan Valley Regional District. The CVRD's board granted unanimous approval, with one abstention, for a rezoning application that will allow private company Youbou Lands to proceed with a 1,950-unit housing development that would transform the town of roughly 1,200 residents." | Youbou is a small hamlet of about 600 houses strung out along the North shore of Cowichan Lake. Youbou itself faces South. There is a public boat launch about 2 blocks from the house, and a waterfront park with a swimming area, grass and childrens swings 1.6km to the West of the house. There are another two childrens' playgrounds, both about 10 minutes walk from the house. There are 2 corner stores, one at either end of the block where the house is located. Both carry video rentals, groceries and some hardware. Both allow the use of a fax machine and photocopier. There is an off-license (cold beer and wine store) a block away underneath the Youbou Bar and Grill. The pub and restaurant have just undergone major renovations and are now open in the summers. There are several restaurants, a large grocery store and lots of small stores in the village of Lake Cowichan, about 10 minutes away. |
| Youbou is 10 minutes from the Village of Lake Cowichan, 30 minutes from downtown Duncan, 1 1/2 hours from Victoria, and 2 hours from Bamfield on the West Coast by gravel logging road . The bush, where there are endless hiking trails, starts about 2 km West of the house, and continues right out to the West Coast of the Island. (The bush is also just above the house above mine, but it is really too steep to call hiking area) Canoes and tires can be rented in the village of Lake Cowichan. |
